Carol Lancaster
Carol Lancaster is Interim Dean of the School of Foreign Service. She is also a professor of politics in the School of Foreign Service with a joint appointment in the Department of Government.
Dean Lancaster has published numerous books and articles on the politics of foreign aid, the politics of development and development in Africa. Her newest book is George Bush's Foreign Aid: Transformation or Chaos? by the Center for Global Development, Washington, D.C. 2008. Her recent books include Foreign Aid: Diplomacy, Development, Domestic Politics (University of Chicago Press, 2006), Organizing US Aid for the 21st Century (with Ann Van Dusen, published by the Brookings Institution, 2006) and Foreign Aid and Private Sector Development (with Kwaku Nuamah, Matthew Lieber and Todd Johnson published by the Watson Institute at Brown University, 2006).
She has been a Carnegie Fellow and a recipient of a fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies. She has also been a Congressional Fellow, a Fulbright Fellow and a visiting fellow at the Institute for International Economics and (currently) the Center for Global Development.
Dean Lancaster has also had an extensive career in government. She was the Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development from 1993 to 1996. She worked at the U.S. State Department as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs from 1980-81 and for the Policy Planning Staff from 1977-80. In addition, she has been a Congressional Fellow and worked for the Office of Management and Budget.
She has been a consultant for the United Nations, the World Bank and numerous other organizations. She serves on the board of the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, Vital Voices, the Society for International Development and the advisory board for Center for Global Development.
She is currently working on a book entitled Evangelicals and World Poverty.
Mitch Kaneda

Dean Kaneda is an economist with a B.A. and an M.A. from International Christian University, Tokyo, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests are in international trade theory and policy, Japanese economy, and economic development. He teaches International Trade, a core economics requirement in the School's undergraduate curriculum. He is the winner of the 1999 Core Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. He views the School as the breeding ground of future global leaders.
Mini D. Murphy
First Year Student Advisor & Curricular Dean for STIA majors
Dean Murphy earned her M.A. at The George Washington University in Education Policy Studies. She is especially interested in the evolution of educational systems to meet the needs of changing societies.
Andrew Steigman
Dean Steigman came to Georgetown in 1985 after a 27-year career in the U.S. Foreign Service that included assignments in Zaire, Libya, France, and Nigeria, and as Ambassador to Gabon.
He draws on his diplomatic experience in offering a course on Theory and Practice of International Negotiation.
Maura Gregory
First Year Student & Curricular Dean for CULP & IHIS majors
Maura Gregory began her career at Georgetown University in 1995 in the Office of International Programs where she advised students about overseas program options in the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Germany and Austria. During her tenure at OIP, she completed a master's degree in Latin American Studies in the Graduate School of Foreign Service at Georgetown. Her combined interests in international education and culture led to a Fulbright Scholarship to study the German education system in May 2001. Just prior to her arrival in SFS in 2006, Ms. Gregory held the positions of Assistant and Associate Director for Student Academic Affairs in the School of Nursing and Health Studies.
Bryan Kasper
First Year Student Advisor & Curricular Dean for IPOL majors
Dean Kasper earned a B.A. and M.A. in Philosophy from American University and M.A. from the SFS Security Studies Program. His diverse academic interests include international security, the nature of war, conflict resolution, and comparative philosophy and religion. He has worked at Georgetown in a variety of roles since 1998, having served in the Office of Student Conduct, Housing and Conference Services, and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Dean Kasper represents the School of Foreign Service on the Overseas Study Advisory Committee, Advising Students Committee, New Student Orientation Planning Group, and the University Honor Council Executive Committee. He also serves as officer on the Bias Reporting Team, the Student Conduct Judicial Hearing Board, and the University Honor Council.
Emily Zenick
First Year and External Transfer Student Advisor and Curricular Dean for RCST Majors
In her role as Assistant Dean, Dean Zenick helps first year students assimilate into a new culture, a familiar task given her overseas rearing by wonderfully adventuresome parents. After earning degrees in Speech Communication and Political Science at Syracuse University, she began her career in education serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand where she taught English and developed income-generating projects for local women. She came to Georgetown in 1996 to earn a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics with a primary interest in second language acquisition of Third Culture Kids. Prior to her arrival to the SFS, Ms. Zenick held the position of Assistant Dean in the McDonough School of Business.
Kendra Baity
Academic and Program Counselor,
Internal Transfer and First Year Student Advisor
Ms. Baity received her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology, from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA and her Masters of Science degree in Human Resource Management from University of Maryland University College. She currently plays a very diverse role in the SFS. In addition to her role as an academic advisor, she oversees the planning of all the SFS Undergraduate events, in particular New Student Orientation, Parents' Weekend, Diplomatic Ball, Student-Faculty Banquet, and Commencement Weekend. Ms. Baity is also the advisor to the SFS student government, the Academic Council. She truly enjoys the diversity of her position and has developed a passion for higher education and empowering students to see their visions come to life.
Melissa Miller
Ms. Miller graduated from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and Spanish. Ms. Miller serves as Assistant to the Director of the Undergraduate Program and Office Manager in the Dean's Office. She coordinates with NSO, manages SFS Parent's Weekend and SFS Commencement, as well as supervises the BSFS student workers. Melissa is pursuing a M.A. in Latin American Studies with SFS' graduate program.
