SFS Core Map of the Modern World
Information on Map of the Modern World
- All first year students take this one credit hour course, which explores the fundamental forces that shape physical geography and the effects of these forces on human history in each region of the world.
- First year students take the Map of the Modern World exemption exam during the fall semester. Students who pass the exemption exam complete the Map requirement. The exemption exam may only be taken once.
- Students who fail Map of the Modern World must repeat the course until it is successfully completed. Students who fail the course multiple times will be placed on academic probation. Students should note that Map is only offered during the spring semester.
- Students who fail the Map course may not take the fall exemption exam. Students are only eligible to take the exemption exam in the fall of the first year in the BSFS program. New BSFS students who fail to take it at that time forfeit the ability to take the exemption exam and must take the Map course.
- Map is a pass/fail course and does not impact cumulative GPA.
